Accreditation (Ver.20071211)
Major features of this Graduate School GP are the accreditation given to the extracurricular activities of graduate students, and the fact that such a system of accreditation is being created. This accreditation serves to gain the recognition of society regarding the legitimacy of these extracurricular activities.
Specifically, we are planning to issue certification as practitioners of human and community development. This certification will be presented to graduate students who participate in the activity support seminars that are part of the Program to Support the Formation of a Human and Community Development Mindset (hereafter referred to as the HC Mindset Program), and who have been judged as satisfying the standards for proactive participation in these activities.
We plan to issue the "Practitioner Certificate in Human & Community Development" for two years of participation, and the "Advanced Practitioner Certificate in Human & Community Development" for three years of participation. We envision completion of the first half of the course as a prerequisite for the first certificate, and completion of the second half of the course as a prerequisite for the second (advanced) certificate.
However, the activities are extracurricular activities, not part of the standard curriculum. Therefore, we will not apply a formulated style such as the system of assigning credits, or any system with unilateral evaluation by instructors. Ultimately, the initiative and autonomy of the graduate students will function as the basis for evaluation. Therefore, rather than using the term accreditation, it might be closer to the mark to use the term "certification of activity". This "certification of activity" places emphasis on showing to both internal and external parties the legitimacy of the educational effect derived from the extracurricular activities. Whatever the case, a system of evaluation will be created during the 3 year experimental period.
From this point forward, there will be frequent revisions of the accreditation system. Please check the Graduate School GP website frequently.
