Message to Related Groups

At the Kobe University Graduate School of Human Development and Environment, we are linking and cooperating with the members of a variety of groups such as the community, citizens, NPOs, government agencies, and corporations. This linking and cooperation allows us to develop the new field of research known as Human and Community Development, a discipline which integrates human development with the formation of society.

The Graduate School GP (Program to Support Educational Reform at Graduate Schools) Project "Giving Substance to Graduate School Education through Activities Outside the Standard Curriculum" (selected by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, academic year 2007 to 2009) seeks to construct a system to support the production of a "human and community development mindset". This mindset can be described as the state of mind and abilities that are expected in actual practice or in the field of research, and is achieved by graduate students by becoming involved in activities outside the standard curriculum.

After completion of the graduate course curriculum, graduate students are expected to actively contribute to society using the intellectual resources gained in the graduate course. Furthermore, it is demanded that graduate students give back to society through interaction with society, the transmission of information, and the results of research. Due to active participation in these kinds of activities at a relatively early stage of their research careers, it is thought that graduate students will able to recognize the importance of contributing to society as a researcher. It is also supposed that this will lead to a revitalization of the groups within each specialized field. We shall provide support for graduate students to actively link with groups such as the community, NPOs, government agencies, and corporations. We also support the independence and activity of graduate students within their particular field.

The aim of this project is to form a link with the members of a variety of groups, thus creating a network that allows for the sharing of problems that exist within each group. This network will ultimately bring even further revitalization to the activities of related groups within each specialized field.

We would like to request the understanding and cooperation from the members of all related groups.
