Project Goal
At the Kobe University Graduate School of Human Development and Environment, we are undertaking research in Human and Community Development, which is a new field of research that integrates human development with the formation of civil society. As part of this research, the University is linking and cooperating with a variety of stakeholders in different positions (related parties, interested parties, problem-solving bodies), such as the community, citizens, NPOs, government agencies, and corporations.
The project "Giving Substance to Graduate School Education through Activities Outside the Standard Curriculum" (academic year 2007 to 2009) is a new program with the goal of developing young researchers and practitioners who will contribute to research in the field of human and community development. In 2007, this project was selected by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a Graduate School GP Project (Program to Support Educational Reform at Graduate Schools).
Specifically, this program is intended to support the activities of graduate students outside the standard curriculum in order to produce what is known as the "human and community development mindset". This mindset refers to the state of mind and abilities that are expected in actual practice or in the field of research, and is separate from the academic abilities that are directly related to the research of graduate students. Also, investigation is being conducted regarding the granting of accreditation beyond the completion degrees for standard curriculum (Master's Degree and Doctoral Degree) to graduate students who have performed a certain amount or quality of activities.
