Project Strategy

The necessity of maintaining a high level of academic quality while proceeding with this project hardly needs to be stated. The maintenance of a high level of academic quality should be achieved through the standard curriculum of the graduate school. This curriculum includes the coursework for each major and accredited course, which is designed to support for the acquirement of specialized knowledge and the development of technical skills. Also included is a program supporting the formation of specialized abilities, which supports the development of research skills and thesis writing through special research.

This project is intended to link together with the goals of graduate courses such as those explained above, and to revitalize the educational function contained within activities outside the standard curriculum. To state the goal of this project in another way, it is to link educational curriculum with informal education while aiming for the production of a "human and community development mindset". We are developing program to support the formation of a human and community development mindset that transcends the boundaries of majors and accreditation courses.

Program to Support the Formation of a Human and Community Development Mindset

The Program to Support the Formation of a Human and Community Development Mindset consists of three phases: 1) practical activities both inside and outside the university, 2) academic activities, and 3) committee activities. The program is designed to support the production of a human and community development mindset by having graduate students participate in these three phases on a continual and subjective basis. It supports the process of a variety of graduate students consisting of differing majors and school years forming a team to cooperate with stakeholders from the regional community and contribute to the solving of actual problems. We expect a new type of researcher and practitioner to be developed from among the advancement of roles such as participation, management and planning, general affairs, and instruction and supervision.

The three features of this program are listed below.

  1. The Human and Community Mindset Activities Committee, which is responsible for the detailed advancement of this program, is composed of a collaboration of instructors and graduate students.
  2. This program is also a process in which a system of cooperation is created with various stakeholders of differing positions. The program is developed based upon cooperation between the university, NPOs, and corporations.
  3. The policy not to give credits for participation in this program. Participants who complete this program will be accredited with the following certificate: "Practitioner Certificate in Human Community Development". This accreditation is separate from scholastic degrees. Consideration will be given to protecting the individualism and freedom of graduate students.
