Human and Community Development Mindset (Ver.20071211)

At the Kobe University Graduate School of Human Development and Environment, we are focused on developing not only a high level of specialized abilities realized through standard education, but also the qualities and abilities that make it possible to perform in civil society. Specifically, we aim to develop qualities and abilities such as the following: respect for the value of team work, communication ability, negotiation ability, planning ability, management ability, and leadership. All of these qualities and abilities are grouped together and referred to as the "human and community development mindset".

Research in the field of human and community development is conducted while cooperating with researchers from other universities and other fields of study, and also with regional organizations, NPOs, and corporations. Human and community development mindset can be called an essential and important quality (ability) for applying specialized abilities in society and for organized joint research.

The belief of this Graduate School GP is that such qualities and abilities may not be formed by just the standard curriculum. We believe that an extracurricular program of research activities and actual practice, one with an emphasis on cooperation and collaboration, may be the key factor in developing such qualities and abilities. This means that a human and community development mindset is produced when graduate students participate directly as main constituent in research or actual practice that spans several fields at once, or in actual linkage with organizations such as NPOs. Proving this hypothesis within the period of the Graduate School GP is also another duty that has been given to us. Instructors and graduate students who will develop performance measures are being formed into groups, but we wish to prove this hypothesis through the efforts of all individuals involved in the GP.
